| He was born into slavery on a small farm in Virginia. After the U.S. Government freed all slaves in 1865, his family moved to West Viginia. He went to school at Hampton Institute in Virginia. Later, Booker became the most influential black leader and educator of his time. He became known because of his role of founder and head of the Tuskegee Normal School, a vocational school in Tuskegee, Alabama. |
