She was born in Eatonville, Florida.  She became one of the best African American female writers in the United States for 30 years.  She attended Howard University and published her first writing in 1921.  Zora was best known for her writings on folklore.  She produced seven books and more than fifty shorter works from autobiography to folklore to music to mythology. She is best known for her novel called 'Their Eyes Were Watching God' in 1937.
