| She was the first of two black American students to attend the University of Georgia in 1961. Students rioted to protest. Hunter-Gault earned a degree in journalism from the university. After graduating from college, she went to work for the New Yorker magazine. Later, she accepted a position for the New York Times. Over the years she won many awards like the New York Times Publisher's Award, tow National News and Documentary Emmys, and a George Peabody Award. She presently works as a journalist on PBS television. |
